I have been reading lots of posts on Facebook and Instagram recently where many people are complaining about mood swings .I must admit that sometimes I wake up with a skip in my step and I feel happy when all of a sudden I find myself being negative and not very polite .I have noticed a few patterns with this. I noticed that I was negative and not very nice to others especially when I hadn’t done my morning meditation. I am going to share with you my three simple tips that have help my own mood swings
1/ Mindfulness Meditation
I find that after I meditate I can focus on things and concentrate for longer periods of time. My stress and anxiety is reduced and it also helps me foster kindness. I am able to regulate my emotions and I am not so reactive.
2) More than 6 hours sleep
I have noticed that if I don’t get a good night’s sleep I can be extremely grumpy and irritable throughout the day. I often ‘overreact’ when things don’t go my way.
I have tried a few things to help me get a good night’s sleep. I always do a meditation to wind down before bed. I do my relaxing body scan meditation. I also have a gratitude practice before bed. I think about three things that I am grateful for and why. Valerian tea before bed is also my friend.
3) Better gut health
My naturopath refers to the gut as a “second brain”, and for a good reason. She explained to me that happy neurotransmitters like serotonin, tryptophan and GABA are produced in the gut, and keeping the gut healthy increases the production of these hormones- creating a positive effect on my mood. I follow her advice and take that supplements that she recommends for good gut health.
